Kawaiikrereba Hentai demo Suki ni Natte Kurumasuka? or as the show likes to call itself, “Hensuki”, heavily relies on a two-edged sword, with its characters serving as the hook and the downfall of this series simultaneously. Luckily, its premise greatly synergized with the characters which more than make up for its flaws.

The panties and love letter first presented was great to spin a narrative around. Just like drinks which should only be served icy cold or blazing hot, the first mystery introduced into the series must either be short and sweet or be the underlying plot for the huge final reveal of the story – doing otherwise would be dragging out the plot, gruesome as a lukewarm drink. Thankfully that’s not the case in this anime. One big reveal at the end of episode 11 while reserving one episode for the conclusion. This simple goal creates organic interactions between the characters in this show as Keiki, our protagonist slowly figure out who left her panties and love letter behind.

Though the story is one selling point, this show’s characters can only be described as abysmal. Keiki, the male protagonist carried the characters so hard I mistaken him with Machio from that dumbbell show this season. “But why?” You may ask. Well, dear readers, it’s him for being … um… a normal human. His mere existence highlights how utterly absurd his harem and friends are. This contrast serves as the device of most jokes in this show, more often hit than miss.

All other characters are created with shock value in mind and nothing else. The senpai is a masochist dog, the kouhai is a sadism loli and his semi-childhood friend likes BL, just to name a few. Everything, however barely, was fine and dandy until the 11th episode. I can’t say much here because of spoilers, but the male MC went out of character so fast I thought I saw Sonic the hedgehog on screen. This inconsistency was quickly fixed by the final episode, but it felt more like a band-aid for this conspicuous problem the than an antidote for me.

The art had been very inconsistent. At its best, it has nice shot compositions showing their stellar character designs with acceptable animation. But at its worst, things are off model and faces of characters look like my sister was using MS paint to draw them. As for the music is passable but does not stand out at all, huge props for the OP and ED though, those weren’t half bad.

Overall, I would say this show is interesting enough for me to grant it 20 minutes a week. But if you have anything else better to do other than watching shitty anime made for filling your “Guilty Pleasures” list, go do that instead.
